There are some romance series you enjoy, and then there are series that somehow become part of your personality for months. The Puckboys series by Eden Finley and Saxon James absolutely became the latter for me.
Over ten books, this series created not just memorable couples, but an entire interconnected hockey world full of chaos, emotional growth, friendship, therapy-level vulnerability, ridiculous group chats, and some of the funniest locker room dynamics I’ve ever read. Every couple brought something different to the table, and somehow the series managed to keep feeling fresh while still maintaining the same heart all the way through.
Now that I’ve officially finished the final book, Charming Puckboy, I figured it was time to do the impossible: rank the couples, talk about how they’re all connected, and recap why this world worked so well from beginning to end.
And yes, I am emotionally unwell that the series is over.
The World of Puckboys
One of the biggest strengths of this series is how interconnected everything feels. These books are not standalone romances floating around independently. Every couple exists within the same hockey universe, and you genuinely feel the friendships, team dynamics, sibling relationships, rivalries, and history carrying across each book.
Players pop into each other’s stories constantly. Former side characters suddenly become leads. Brothers, teammates, best friends, and chaotic disasters all intertwine in ways that make the world feel alive rather than episodic. By the later books, reading a Puckboys novel feels like catching up with an entire found family.
And honestly? That’s what made the series addictive.
The books balance hockey culture with romance exceptionally well. The hockey never disappears, but it also never overshadows the emotional core of the stories. Instead, the sport becomes the backdrop for exploring identity, vulnerability, friendship, pressure, fame, masculinity, and what it means to truly let someone know you.
There are a few themes that show up repeatedly throughout the series:
- Found family
- Emotional vulnerability beneath confidence
- Queer identity in professional sports
- Healing from past mistakes
- Learning how to communicate honestly
- Letting yourself be loved
- Chaos. So much chaos.
And somehow every single book manages to combine emotional depth with genuinely hilarious moments.
My Favorite Couples Ranking
1. Easton & Knox (Forbidden Puckboy)
This couple completely wrecked me in the best way.
The emotional tension in this book is unreal. Easton’s need to follow the rules clashing with Knox’s willingness to challenge everything creates this constant push-and-pull that made every interaction feel intense. Add in the complication of Connor being both Easton’s protective brother and Knox’s best friend, and suddenly the emotional stakes become even messier and better.
What really sold me was how deeply these two cared about each other long before they allowed themselves to admit it. The relationship feels risky, emotional, and earned. Their payoff was incredible.
This became my favorite couple because they balance tension, vulnerability, loyalty, and emotional payoff perfectly.
2. Ari & Vance (Clueless Puckboy)
This book surprised me so much.
Ari’s lovable obliviousness could have easily become frustrating, but instead it became one of the most charming emotional arcs in the series. Watching everything slowly click for him while Vance patiently navigated the chaos was both hilarious and genuinely sweet.
Their relationship feels natural in a way that makes the emotional moments hit harder. The transition from friendship into something deeper was handled so well, and honestly, these two just made me smile constantly.
3. Sam & Lachie (Charming Puckboy)
The cutest couple in the entire series. No debate.
Lachie’s “Disney Princess hockey player” energy was impossible not to love, and seeing Sam slowly realize the awkward shelter volunteer he used to tease grew into this confident, caring man was incredibly satisfying.
Their relationship feels softer than some of the heavier books, but that is exactly why it works. They fit together so naturally. Plus, the Colorado setting made this one extra special for me since it takes place so close to where I’ve lived.
I’m honestly devastated this was the final book because it felt like the perfect goodbye to the series.
4. Ezra & Anton (Egotistical Puckboy)
The original obsession.
These two were my top couple for a long time because their chemistry is immediate and electric. Ezra’s chaotic confidence balanced perfectly against Anton’s more reserved personality, and the banter between them was top-tier.
What makes them memorable is how quickly you become emotionally attached to both characters. This book really set the tone for the entire series.
5. Colby & Novi (Stubborn Puckboy) One of the most emotionally mature stories in the series.
The seventeen years of unresolved tension between them made every interaction feel loaded with history. Novi’s fear surrounding his family situation in Russia added so much emotional complexity, and Colby’s steadiness balanced him beautifully.
This book handled longing and second chances exceptionally well.
6. Connor & Parker (Possessive Puckboy)
This might honestly be one of the most emotionally layered books in the series.
I really struggled with Parker at first because of how much bitterness and emotional manipulation he carried. But watching his plan to emotionally torment Connor slowly backfire as he fell in love with him became incredibly compelling.
Connor’s goofy, lovable personality made him impossible not to root for, and their dynamic ultimately worked far better than I expected.
7. Aleks & Gabe (Foolish Puckboy)
This book surprised me in the best way.
Aleks and Gabe brought a softer, grounded emotional dynamic to the series that really worked. Aleks trying to rebuild himself after divorce while Gabe provided stability created a relationship that felt comforting and sincere.
Also, the audiobook narration for this one was fantastic.
8. Ollie & Lennox (Shameless Puckboy)
Probably the funniest emotional growth arc in the series.
Ollie’s larger-than-life personality hides a lot more vulnerability than expected, and Lennox grounding him created a really satisfying emotional balance.
This one had some of the funniest moments in the entire series while still delivering solid emotional depth.
9. Dexy & Tripp (Irresponsible Puckboy)
Messy chaos in the best possible way.
Dexy’s impulsive personality paired with Tripp’s steadiness created a really entertaining opposites-attract dynamic. Watching Dexy slowly mature emotionally made this one stand out.
Why Puckboys Works So Well
At its core, this series works because the relationships feel deeply human beneath all the hockey chaos and humor.
Every book explores vulnerability in different ways. Some characters struggle with identity. Others struggle with grief, fear, emotional repression, family pressure, regret, or simply learning how to communicate honestly. But every relationship ultimately comes down to the same thing: learning how to let someone truly see you.
And while the romances are fantastic, the friendships honestly make the series special. The locker room dynamics, sibling relationships, group chats, and recurring side characters make this world feel lived in and real.
You are not just reading ten romances. You are watching an entire community evolve over time.
That is what made finishing this series feel bittersweet. By the end, these characters genuinely feel like people you’ve spent years with.
And honestly? I already miss them.
