Spoiler-Free Synopsis:
Lachie might be one of the NHL’s brightest young stars, but none of his success seems to matter when it comes to impressing his longtime crush back home. Returning to Colorado for the summer means reconnecting with Sam, the guy who used to tease him for being a “Disney Princess” because of his tendency to rescue every animal he came across.
Sam barely recognizes the awkward teenager who used to trail after him at the animal shelter. Lachie has grown into himself in every possible way, and now instead of asking questions about animal care, he is confidently flirting and making it very clear what he wants. What begins as summer attraction quickly becomes something much deeper as both men start realizing this connection may not be temporary after all.
My Thoughts / Review:
First of all, I am genuinely devastated this is the last Puckboys book. This series has become such a comfort series for me, and Charming Puckboy honestly feels like the perfect sendoff. It has all the things that made the series work so well from the beginning: humor, emotional connection, found family, ridiculous hockey chaos, and relationships that actually make you care deeply about the characters involved.
And Sam and Lachie? By far the cutest couple in the series.
There is something so incredibly charming about Lachie’s personality. The whole “Disney Princess” energy could have easily felt over-the-top, but instead it makes him unbelievably lovable. He is confident without losing his softness, successful without becoming arrogant, and completely unapologetic about caring deeply for animals and the people around him. Honestly, he might be one of the sweetest characters in the entire series.
What makes the romance work so well is the contrast between who Lachie used to be and who he has grown into. Sam remembers this awkward, eager teenager who followed him around the shelter, and now suddenly that same kid is confidently flirting with him and making him rethink everything. Their chemistry feels playful and warm from the start, but underneath it is this really genuine emotional connection built on familiarity, comfort, and years of quiet admiration.
I also loved how grounded this book felt compared to some of the heavier emotional arcs in earlier installments. There is still vulnerability and emotional depth, but the overall tone feels softer and more hopeful. It captures that feeling of finding someone who simply fits into your life naturally.
And honestly, the Colorado setting made this one extra special for me. Knowing the story takes place only about thirty minutes away from where I have lived made everything feel weirdly personal in the best way. Seeing familiar places and the Colorado atmosphere woven into the story added an extra layer of comfort and connection while listening to the audiobook.
Speaking of the audiobook, it absolutely elevated the experience for me again. The narration brought out so much of Lachie’s charm and Sam’s quieter warmth. Their banter, flirting, and softer moments felt incredibly natural and immersive.
While Easton and Knox still own my favorite emotional tension, Sam and Lachie might honestly be the cutest and most comforting couple in the entire Puckboys series. They just made me happy every time they were together.
Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely. If you love charming golden-retriever energy, childhood crushes, animal shelter settings, small-town summer romance vibes, and couples that are impossible not to root for, this is such a satisfying read. It is heartfelt, funny, comforting, and the perfect way to close out the Puckboys series.
Favorite Moment Highlight:
Every single animal shelter scene honestly stole my heart, but especially the moments where Sam realizes the awkward kid he used to tease grew up into someone completely impossible to resist.
