Adults on FX Is the Kind of Messy, Chaotic TV I Absolutely Needed

Listen… I know I’m late to watching Adults. But in my defense, the “to be watched” list is genuinely never-ending. Between streaming services dropping new content every other day and everyone online telling me “you HAVE to watch this immediately,” sometimes shows sit on the list longer than intended.

That being said: I finally started Adults on FX, and now I completely understand the hype.

First of all, this cast? Perfect. No notes.

The chemistry between everyone feels so natural that it almost stops feeling scripted at points. The group dynamic has this chaotic-but-comfortable energy that reminds you of being in your twenties and trying to survive adulthood alongside people who are equally confused. Every interaction feels lived in. The jokes land because the relationships feel believable, and even the quieter moments work because the cast knows how to balance humor with vulnerability.

And honestly, that’s what makes the show so enjoyable.

A lot of ensemble comedies try really hard to manufacture chemistry, but Adults feels effortless. You can tell the cast understands each other’s timing, rhythm, and emotional beats. Nobody feels out of place. Nobody feels like “the weak link.” Instead, it feels like watching a group of real friends spiral through life together in the most entertaining way possible.

The writing also deserves credit for understanding modern adulthood without feeling unbearably cringe about it. The show captures that strange era of life where everyone is pretending to know what they’re doing while simultaneously falling apart behind the scenes. Careers, relationships, identity, finances, friendships, and it’s all messy. Adults embrace that mess instead of trying to clean it up for television.

Also, can we talk about how refreshing it is to watch a comedy that actually trusts its audience? The humor feels sharp without constantly trying to force a viral moment every thirty seconds. It’s funny because it’s honest.

And now I’m sitting here, incredibly impatient for season two.

Apparently, season two is going to be showcased at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival, which honestly feels deserved based on how strong the first season was. If that ends up being true, I’m even more excited to see where the series goes next because it feels like the show is only beginning to figure out its full potential.

Overall, Adults ended up being one of those shows that immediately makes you text your friends: “Okay wait… why did nobody force me to watch this sooner?”

Now excuse me while I aggressively recommend it to everyone else while pretending I wasn’t months late to the party myself.
