Spoiler-Free Synopsis:
After his divorce, Aleks is ready to keep things light, casual, and uncomplicated. Then he meets Gabe Crosby, a firefighter who does not care about hockey, fame, or the lifestyle that comes with it. What starts as attraction and fun quickly becomes more complicated as the two keep getting pulled back into each other’s orbit. Aleks may think he is only looking for something easy, but Gabe challenges that plan in all the best ways.
My Thoughts / Review:
This one had such a fun energy, and listening to it as an audiobook made it even better. Since I switched to audiobooks after losing Kindle Unlimited, this felt like a really easy and entertaining one to sink into. The narration helped bring out the humor, flirtation, and emotional moments in a way that made Aleks and Gabe’s dynamic feel even more natural.
What I really liked about this book is how different the two leads feel from each other. Aleks is coming out of a major life change and trying to figure out what he actually wants, while Gabe feels steadier and more grounded. That balance works really well. Their chemistry is immediate, but the story also gives them room to build trust and emotional connection, which made the romance feel satisfying instead of rushed.
There is a softness to this book underneath all the banter and attraction. Aleks’s journey especially stood out to me because it is not just about romance, but also about stepping into a new version of himself. Gabe brings warmth and stability without feeling boring, and together they make a couple that is easy to root for.
And honestly? This couple is competing for one of my top spots in the series. Ezra and Anton still hold strong, but Aleks and Gabe come very close. Their dynamic just hits that perfect balance of fun, emotional, and grounded that makes a couple really stick with you.
Would I Recommend It?
Yes, definitely. If you like hockey romance, opposites-attract energy, and relationships that balance humor with heart, this is a really enjoyable installment in the series. I would especially recommend the audiobook if you are in your listening era too, the narration really enhances the experience.
Favorite Moment Highlight:
The moments where Aleks starts realizing this might be more than something casual really stood out to me. Those quieter, more honest scenes gave the story a lot of heart.
