Egotistical Puckboy (Puckboys, #1) by Eden Finley & Saxon James

Pages: 320
Published: 2022
Genre: Sports Romance, LGBTQ+ Romance, Contemporary

Spoiler-Free Synopsis:
Ezra Palaszczuk is a confident, talented hockey player with a reputation to match, on and off the ice. Anton Hayes, on the other hand, is more reserved, focused, and not interested in the chaos Ezra tends to bring with him. When circumstances force the two into close proximity, what starts as tension and clashing personalities slowly shifts into something neither of them expected.

As their worlds collide, both players are pushed to confront their assumptions, vulnerabilities, and what they truly want on the ice and in their personal lives.

My Thoughts / Review:
This book was so much fun, but what really made it stand out for me was Ezra and Anton as a couple. From the start, their dynamic is electric, there’s tension, banter, and that perfect opposites-attract energy that keeps you hooked. Ezra’s bold, chaotic confidence paired with Anton’s more grounded, controlled personality creates a balance that just works.

What I loved most is how their relationship evolves. It’s not just surface-level chemistry (though there’s plenty of that 👀), but a deeper emotional connection that builds as they start to understand each other. Ezra, in particular, has more depth than you might expect at first glance, and watching Anton slowly break down his walls, and vice versa, was incredibly satisfying.

The hockey setting adds a great backdrop without overwhelming the story. It keeps the pacing quick and engaging while still leaving room for those quieter, character-driven moments that really make the relationship feel real. The humor throughout also hits perfectly, it keeps things light even when emotions start to deepen.

Out of the full series, Ezra and Anton are easily one of my top couples. There’s just something about their chemistry and growth that makes them stick with you long after you finish the book.

Would I Recommend It?
Yes, especially if you love sports romance, opposites-attract dynamics, and strong character chemistry. This is a great start to the Puckboys series and a must-read if you’re looking for something fun, flirty, and emotionally satisfying.

Favorite Moment Highlight:
Any scene where Ezra pushes Anton just enough to get a reaction, the tension, the humor, and the slow shift into something more is chef’s kiss.
