Why I’m Loving the Boox Palma 2 (And Reaching for It More Than My Kindle)

For years, my go-to reading device was the Kindle Paperwhite. It’s lightweight, reliable, and the e-ink display is easy on the eyes. Like many readers, I assumed that once you had a good Kindle, there really wasn’t much reason to explore anything else.

Then I picked up the Boox Palma 2… and it has completely changed how I read.

A Phone-Sized E-Reader That Actually Makes Sense

The first thing that stands out about the Boox Palma 2 is its size. Instead of the traditional tablet-style e-reader, the Palma looks and feels much closer to a smartphone.

At first, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about reading on a smaller screen. But in practice, it’s one of my favorite things about the device.

It slips easily into a pocket, fits perfectly in one hand, and feels incredibly natural to hold while reading. Whether I’m waiting in line, sitting at a coffee shop, or winding down before bed, it’s easy to pull out and read a few pages.

It feels less like I’m committing to a full reading session and more like reading is just part of my day.

The Freedom of Apps

One of the biggest differences between the Palma and my Kindle is flexibility.

Because the Boox Palma runs Android, I can install multiple reading apps instead of being locked into a single ecosystem. That means I can easily switch between:

  • Kindle books
  • Library reads
  • Other reading platforms

Instead of juggling multiple devices or being limited to one storefront, everything lives in one place. For someone who reads across different platforms, that convenience has been a huge upgrade.

Still That Beautiful E-Ink Experience

What I didn’t want to give up when switching devices was the e-ink display.

Bright screens and long reading sessions don’t mix well for me, which is why I’ve always loved e-readers in the first place. The Palma keeps that same comfortable reading experience while adding a level of versatility that traditional e-readers often lack.

It still feels calm, distraction-free, and easy on the eyes.

It Fits Into My Reading Life Better

One of the unexpected things about the Boox Palma 2 is how much it has changed how often I read.

Because it’s so portable and easy to grab, I find myself reading in moments that I might have otherwise reached for my phone. A few pages while waiting somewhere. A quick chapter before bed. A little reading break during the day.

Those small moments add up quickly.

And lately, that means the Palma is the device I reach for most—even over my Kindle.

Final Thoughts

The Kindle Paperwhite is still a fantastic e-reader, and for many people it will continue to be the perfect option.

But the Boox Palma 2 has surprised me in the best way. Its portability, flexibility, and phone-like design have made reading feel more integrated into my daily life.

And honestly? Any device that helps me read more is a win.
